PHASE I - COURSEWORK:

Core courses for programme

  Core Courses (6 credits)    
  Research Methodology 3 credits  
  Business Statistics 3 credits  
       
  Courses (6 credits)    
  Choose one of the following:    
     - Seminar in Management 3 credits  
     - Seminar in Finance 3 credits  
     - Seminar in Marketing 3 credits  
     - Seminar in Accounting 3 credits  
  Choose one of the following:    
     - Theory in Management 3 credits  
     - Theory in Finance 3 credits  
     - Theory in Marketing 3 credits  
     - Accounting Theory 3 credits  
       
  Econometrics (3 credits)    
  To be taken by candidates specialising in Finance.
(Other courses proposed by the Supervisory Committee)

Coursework Performance Assessment:

Students’ performance is evaluated through a combination of continuous assessment and conventional examination.

PHASE II - PROPOSAL DEFENCE

Candidates must publicly present and defend their PhD research (thesis) proposals. Only those who have met the requirement of the proposal defence are allowed to proceed with their research (Phase III).

PHASE III - THESIS

Thesis Preparation- Data Collection, Data Analysis and Report Writing.

The courses in Phase I are designed to help candidates prepare their PhD proposals. All candidates are required to take the Qualifying Examination at the end of Phase I before they are allowed to proceed to the next, i.e. conducting the actual PhD research.

The Qualifying Examination is a comprehensive written and oral examination of subject matter in the discipline. Candidates can be exempted from sitting for the comprehensive examination if the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) obtained for the relevant courses is at least 3.5. Candidates are given another chance to sit for the comprehensive examination if they fail in their first attempt.
