   Admission Requirements
   Semesters Offering the Programme



 


Admission Requirements:

To qualify for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidates must hold the following qualifications:

  1. Applicants are required to have a Masters Degree with CGPA of at least 3.300 or its equivalent in the relevant field; or,
     
  2. Applicants have a Masters Degree with CGPA below 3.300 or equivalent in the relevant field but have experience in research work; or,
     
  3. Applicants have obtained whatever other qualification that is approved by the UPM Senate.
     
  4. Applicants must have proficiency in the language according to the requirement of the University.
Language Proficiency Requirements:

    (English Language)
 
  1. A Malaysian candidate must have obtained at least a credit in English at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia level or have passed English courses conducted at the Diploma or Bachelor's level.
     
  2. All international candidates from countries where English is not a medium of instruction must have obtained a minimum score of 550 for TOEFL or 6 for IELTS. This requirement is not applicable to candidate applying for admission into the Malay Language Studies.
     
  3. Provisional admission may be granted to an applicant who has obtained a score of 500 - 549 for TOEFL or Band 5 - 5.5 for IELTS or its equivalent, who upon registration, is required to enrol and pass the Tertiary English Programme conducted by the University. An applicant with a TOEFL score lower than 500 or IELTS lower than Band 5 shall not be considered for admission. An applicant with a degree from any Malaysian public university who has fulfilled the English requirement for that degree shall be exempted from such a requirement.
    (Malay Language)
 
  1. All international students (except students from Indonesia and Brunei) must obtain a grade 'M' for the Malay Language course (BBM 1401 or its equivalent) to be eligible for conferral of a degree.

    Note:
    M - Memuaskan/Satisfactory
* Note: Appropriate GMAT score is an advantage.

Relevant research experience is an added advantage.

Applicants are to ensure that a research proposal is attached with the application form.

Semesters Offering the Programme:

First and Second Semester
 

  • Classes are held during the evening on weekdays (6.30 p.m – 9.30 p.m) and/or on Saturdays (9.00 a.m – 12.00 noon / 2.30 p.m – 5.30 p.m).
     
  • The average period of study is 6 semesters (3 years) with a maximum of 10 semesters (5 years).
