1. What is the basic requirement for admission to the GSM-MM programme?

To qualify for the Master of Management (MM) candidates must hold the following qualifications:

  1. Applicants are required to have an Honours Degree with a CGPA of at least 2.500 or its equivalent with two years working experience; or,
     
  2. Applicants have obtained a professional qualification recognized as the equivalent with (i) above; or,
     
  3. Applicants have a CGPA under 2.500 and held or is holding a position at the middle level management in a public company or a government department for at least ten years; or,
     
  4. Applicants have obtained whatever other qualification that is approved by the UPM senate.
     
  5. Applicants must have proficiency in the language according to the requirement of the University.

Language Proficiency Requirements:
    (English Language)

  1. A Malaysian candidate must have obtained at least a credit in English at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia level or have passed English courses conducted at the Diploma or Bachelor's level.
     
  2. All international candidates from countries where English is not a medium of instruction must have obtained a minimum score of 550 for TOEFL or 6 for IELTS. This requirement is not applicable to candidate applying for admission into the Malay Language Studies.
     
  3. Provisional admission may be granted to an applicant who has obtained a score of 500 - 549 for TOEFL or Band 5 - 5.5 for IELTS or its equivalent, who upon registration, is required to enrol and pass the Tertiary English Programme conducted by the University. An applicant with a TOEFL score lower than 500 or IELTS lower than Band 5 shall not be considered for admission. An applicant with a degree from any Malaysian public university who has fulfilled the English requirement for that degree shall be exempted from such a requirement.

    (Malay Language)

  1. All international students (except students from Indonesia and Brunei) must obtain a grade 'M' for the Malay Language course (BBM 1401 or its equivalent) to be eligible for conferral of a degree.

2. What is the structure of the programme?

The structure is as below:

 

Core Courses:

  • Organisation and Business Management

  • Organisational Behaviour

  • Strategic Management

  • Operations Management

  • Marketing Management

  • Business Accounting

  • Financial Management

Core Courses For Area of Specialisation: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

  • Electronic Commerce

  • Web Technologies

  • Systems Analysis and Design

  • Software Engineering

  • Software Project Management

Other Requirement:

  • Comprehensive Examination
    At the end of the programme, a student is required to take a Comprehensive Examination. This is a written examination that covers all the courses taken by the student. The aim of the examination is to test the student's ability to apply his/her knowledge to solve specific management problem.

3. Where and when are the classes held?

All MM classes are conducted in GSM building at UPM campus. Classes are held on weekdays evening from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm and/or on Saturdays afternoon from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

4. What is the duration of MM programme?

It takes 18 months for all the students to complete the entire programme. A student must complete 36 credit hours of course work followed by a comprehensive examination before they graduate.

5. What is the medium of instruction for the programme?

All MM classes are conducted in English. You are required to write your class assignments in English.

6. Is there any financial assistance?

Currently, we do not offer any scholarships or loans to students. Students are required to secure their own funding and there are many banks (RHB bank, Bank Rakyat or Bumiputra Commerce), which offer competitive interest rates for study loans such as PTPTN or MARA.

7. Is there university housing for International Students or for students from outside the Klang valley?

Students are required to arrange their own accommodation. Student Residential Colleges for undergraduates may have limited room vacancies for post-graduate students. A student may contact the managers of the respective colleges directly. This will be a private arrangement between the students and the Residential College concerned.

8. How much is the total fees of the MM programme? Do I pay the full amount at the beginning of the course?

Total fees for foreign students - RM25,446.00
(A bank guarantee letter is required to certify that you have sufficient fund for the entire programme).

Total fees for local students – RM15,690.00

You are not required to pay the entire amount on registration of the programme. Fees are payable according to a schedule stated per trimester.

9. When are the intakes for the GSM-MM programme?

Intake is conducted only in First Trimester.

10. I am interested to apply for the GSM-MM programme. How do I apply?

To receive an application form and brochure, please send a RM1.00 stamped (within Malaysian), self addressed envelope (35cm x 25cm) together with a RM10.00 postal order payable to “Bendahari, Universiti Putra Malaysia”. Completed forms must be submitted to the address below:

The completed application forms should reach the Graduate School of Management office by the following dates:

Applicant First Trimester

11. Can I apply if I don't have a basic degree but hold a professional qualification?

Yes. The followings are acceptable as equivalent to a degree programme:
  • ICSA
  • ACCA (Associates) & CII (Associate) & CII (Associates) - UK
  • CIMA (Associates), CIT (Corporate Membership) - UK
  • MACPA, MII & Ins. Of Bankers (Full membership) - M'sia
  • Inst. Of Surveyor & Ins. Of Engineers (Full membership) - M'sia
  • Advanced Diploma from UiTM
